World Championships Beijing Day 4 – Ferguson Rotich 4th in 800m Final

The men’s 800m final held on 25-August, was dominated by David Rudisha, the reigning Olympic Champion and 800m WR holder, who led the tightly packed field through 400m in a slow 54.17.  Ferguson Cheruiyot Rotich at that point was positioned immediately off Rudisha’s shoulder, and the two continued side-by-side to just short of the 600m mark, at which point Rotich took a momentary lead, only to see Rudisha push right back into the lead.  As Rudisha and Rotich entered the final straight as 1-2, Rotich was first passed by Adam Kszczot with 90m to go, then by Amel Tuka with 20m to go.  At the finish, it was Rudisha claiming another global title with a time of 1:45.84, followed by Kszczot (1:46.08), Tuka (1:46.30), Rotich (1:46.35), and Pierre-Ambroise Bosse (1:46.63).  Alfred Kipketer also competed in the final, finishing in 8th place (1:47.66).
