World Championships Beijing Day 1 – F. Rotich, Kipketer, A. Rotich, and Bultheel advance

The 2015 IAAF World Championships, held at the Bird’s Nest Olympic Stadium in Beijing, got underway on 22-August in successful fashion for all three Personae-managed athletes entered in the 800m.  Ferguson Rotich, who captured the Kenyan WC Trials 800m title, won his heat in 1:45.83, the overall fastest time posted in the opening round.  Alfred Kipketer (1:46.67) and Abraham Rotich (1:48.42) finished 2nd in their respective 800m heats, to auto-qualify for the semi-final round.  The final athlete who moved on was Michael Bultheel in the 400m Hurdles. His 6th-place heat time of 49.38 was matched by two other athletes, but Bultheel’s time was superior at the 1/1000th of a second, determining his advancement.  Semi-final rounds of the 800m and 400m Hurdles will take place on 23-August.

Athletes competing on Day 1, but not advancing, included Mitko Tsenov (steeple heats, 13th in 9:02.72) and John Koech (steeple heats, 8th in 8:38.62).  Entered athletes unable to start or complete event due to injury included Jeroen D’Hoedt (steeple) and Bashir Abdi (10000m).
