Rotich gets career-first Diamond League victory in Shanghai

The Shanghai 800m race featured a quality field that included current WR holder and ’12 London Olympic Champion, David Rudisha, and ’12 London OG 5th placer, Nick Symmonds.  But it was a jubilant Ferguson Rotich Cheruiyot who secured his second career defeat of Rudisha with a winning time of 1:45.68, edging out Robert Biwott (1:45.84) and fellow Personae teammate Alfred Kipketer (1:45.93).  Rudisha finished 5th in 1:46.24.

The women’s 3000m Steeplechase in Shanghai produced the top-8 performances of the season so far, with Personae athletes putting a big stamp on the competition with Ruth Jebet, despite tripping on the curb and falling with 100m to go, in 2nd (9:15.98 Personal Best and Bahrain & Asian Record), Virginia Nyambura in 4th (9:21.15),  Purity Kirui in 5th (9:22.47), and Celliphione Chespol in 7th (9:24.73 Personal Best and no. 1 on ’16 world Jr. steeple chart).

Finally, the Shanghai men’s 5000m generated the event’s top-10 performances of the season so far, with Albert Rop finishing in 7th with a time of 13:04.87.
