Rio Olympic Games – Track & Field Days 5/6/7: Rop advances to 5000m final

Albert Rop was one of four Personae-managed athletes competing in the 5000m heats in Rio, but the only one among them to advance to the final after placing 2nd in his heat with a time of 13:24.95.  The Olympic 5000m final will be held on 20-August.  Rop has previously competed in two global championships, placing 11th in the 5000m final of the ’15 IAAF World Athletics Championships (Beijing), as well as finishing 11th at the ’15 IAAF World Cross Country Championships (Guiyang).  The other 5000m competitors failing to advance were Isiah Koech (12th in heat in 13:25.15), Charles Mneria (12th in heat in 13:30.95), and Bashir Abdi (16th in heat in 13:42.83).

Other Personae-managed athletes competing on days 5-5-7 in Rio, but failing to advance to the finals of their respective events included Michael Bultheel in the 400m Hurdles (5th in semi-final in 49.46); Homiyu Tesfaye in the 1500m (7th in heat in 3:47.44, 7th in semi-final in 3:40.76); Dawit Wolde in the 1500m (10th in heat in 3:39.29, 10th in semi-final in 3:41.62); Pieter-Jan Hannes in the 1500m (8th in heat in 3:38.89, 12th in semi-final in 3:43.71); Anne Zagre in the 100m Hurdles (2nd in heat in 12.85, last in semi-final after crashing); and Louise Carton in the 5000m (11th in heat in 15:34.99).
