Virginia Nyambura‘s breakthrough season on the world steeplechase scene maintained its momentum on 9-July at the Athletissima meeting in Lausanne, the 9th stop on the 14-city 2015 Diamond League tour. Following the early pacing by Ann Gathoni (3:06.52 at 1000m) and 2000m leader Ruth Jebet (6:17.73), Nyambura with a late charge took the victory in 9:16.99, her second-fastest steeple performance of her career, trailing only her ’15 world no. 3 mark of 9:15.75 from DL Rome. Nyambura in the process extended her Diamond League steeplechase points race lead over Hiwot Ayalew (2nd in 9:17.22) by a 14-to-9 points margin.
Additional Personae-managed athletes with noteworthy races in Lausanne were steeplechaser Ruth Chebet (4th in 9:26.87 and ’15 season’s top junior time in the world), along with 800m specialists Ferguson Rotich (3rd in 1:44.44) and Alfred Kipketer (4th in 1:45.14).
Other highlights from the European track & field circuit in early July included Nicholas Bett‘s 8:20.21 PB and top ’15 world junior time, for 2nd place in the 3000m SC at Budapest and Abraham Rotich‘s 1:45.33 for 2nd place in the 800m at Sotteville-les-Rouen.
