Three Golazo athletes won medals on Day 4 of the 2026 European Athletics Championships, held at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, England (10-16 August).
In the women’s 3000m Steeplechase final held on 13 August, Golazo athlete veteran Gesa Felicitas Krause (Germany) secured the third European Championship title of her career. Positioned in the lead pack throughout the race, she closed with a convincing sprint down the home stretch, pulling away to win in a time of 9:12.69. The silver medal went to Alice Finot of France (9:14.24), while the bronze medal went to fellow Golazo athlete Oliva Gurth of Germany (9:15.33). This was Krause’s third European gold medal (2016 Amsterdam, 2018 Berlin), while Gurth reached her first major championship podium.
In the women’s Triple Jump final, Golazo athlete newcomer Saliyya Guisse (Belgium) provided one of the biggest surprises of the championships so far. Ranked 20th among Europeans in 2026, she advanced to the final by placing 10th in the qualifying round with a jump of 14.07m, a new personal best. In the final, Guisse’s third attempt was another PB of 14.37m, which she followed up with a PB jump of 14.46m, to claim the silver medal behind Dariya Derkach of Italy (14.60m).
Other Golazo athletes with noteworthy performances during the first five days of the championships include Pauline Couckuyt (Belgium), 4th in the women’s 400mH final (53.87 PB), after winning her semi-final (also in 53.87); Owe Fisher-Breiholz (Germany), 5th in the men’s 400mH final (48.56), after placing 2nd in his 400mH semi-final (48.23); Marusa Mismas-Zrimsek (Slovenia), 7th in the women’s 10000m final (32:02.57); Merel Maes (Belgium) advanced out of the qualifying round to the final of the women’s High Jump, with the minimum requirement clearance of 1.91m; Remi Schyns (Belgium) and Ruben Querinjean (Luxembourg) both advanced out of the men’s 3000m Steeplechase heats to the final, by placing 4th in 8:34.63 and 6th in 8:35.07, respectively; the Belgian women’s 4x400m team (with lead-off Pauline Couckuyt) advanced from their opening heat to the final, by placing 4th in 3:26.59, and Rani Rosius who won her opening 100m heat (11.17) and was 4th in the semi-final round (11.24). Finally, Noor Vidts (Belgium) finished Day 1 of the women’s Heptathlon in 7th place with 3787 points (13.38/100mH, 1.77m/High Jump, 14.25m/Shot Put, 24.14/200m).
