Kosgey earns 2nd place in Franfurt Marathon with first career sub-2:08 performance

The pre-race favorites in the men’s field of the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon included Tadesse Tola (sub-2:05 performer and bronze medallist  in ’13 IAAF World Championships Marathon), Mark Korir (’15 Paris Marathon champion and sub-2:06 performer), and Cyprian Kotut (’16 Paris Marathon champion in 2:07:11).  With a marathon personal best of 2:09:50 (’15 Hanover) and not expected to figure among the contenders, Martin Kiprugut Kosgey nonetheless positioned himself among the lead runners early on in the race.  Kosgey subsequently remained with the front runners, which counted eleven through halfway (1:03:00), five at 30 km, and then three at the 35 km mark – Korir, the surprising Kosgey, and Kotut.  The three remained together through the 40 km point, after which Korir eventually pulled away to claim victory in 2:06:48, ahead of Kosgey (2:07:22 personal best), and Kotut (2:07:28).  Tola finished 5th in 2:11:52. Kosgey’s almost 2:30 improvement of his career best in the marathon was preceded earlier in the year with another 2nd place at Marathon Hanover (2:11:54).

Other noteworthy road performances by Personae-managed athletes in late October included Rose Chelimo at the Valencia Half Marathon (3rd in 1:09:35), Eunice Jeptoo in Marathon Rennes (2nd in 2:31:58 Personal Best), and Abraham Cheroben in the Valencia Haf Marathon (9th in 1:01:55).
