Day 1 of the IAAF track and field world championships in London (4. August) finished off with the deepest men’s 10000m final in the history of these championships, with champion Mo Farah‘s time of 26:49.51 just missing Kenenisa Bekele‘s championship record; with the top-7 going under 27:00 minutes, and with best-mark-for-place set by runners in 2nd through 12th place. Abraham Cheroben‘s time of 27:11.08 was a new personal best over 10000m and also established a new Bahrain national record in the event. It was Cheroben’s 2nd straight global championships final on the track, as he also finished 10th in the ’16 Rio Olympic Games 10000m.
In other action on Day 1, Philip Milanov’s best throw of 63.16m in the discus qualification round placed him 14th overall among the competitors, which was not enough to advance him into the event’s final round.
