Elise Vanderelst took a sensible approach in a very tactically run finale. She waited for the right moment to propel herself forwards and raced to win the 1,500m gold in a searing final sprint. The 23-year-old athlete from Mons won with 4:18.44 beating Brit Holly Archer and the German Hanna Klein. The second Golazo personalities athlete in the finale – the German Gesa Krause ? finished in eighth place.
As was expected, Jakob Ingebrigtsen (7:48.20) was untouchable in the men’s 3,000m, but Isaac Kimeli impressed by grabbing second place behind the Norwegian phenomenon. 26-year-old Kimeli finished in 7:49.41. Robin Hendrix ended in twelfth place with 7:59.86.
Thomas Carmoy, the 2019 European U20 Champion, immediately scored a bronze medal at his first Senior European Championships. With 2.26m, the 21-year-old athlete from Charleroi stayed just 2cm below his PR. Gold went to the Belarussian Maksim Nedasekau who reached 2.37m and silver went to Italian Gianmarco Tamberi with 2.35m.
