The men’s competition in Valencia still looked like a wide-open contest at the 15 km mark, which was reached by a lead pack of 25 runners (44:13). However, two-time defending champion Geoffrey Kamworor at that point had moved to the front of the race, and with a surge that produced a 13:01 split for the fourth 5 km segment, he separated himself for good from the rest of the contenders. Abraham Cheroben proved himself best among the chasing pack, but still conceded 14 seconds to the leader by the 20 km check-point. By the finish line, Kamworor secured his third straight half marathon world title with a time of 10:00:02, followed by Cheroben (1:00:22), and bronze medalist Aron Kifle (1:00:31). Cheroben, still the all-time no. 3 performer over the distance with his PB of 58:40 (’17 Copenhagen), also led Bahrain to the bronze medals in the team event, behind Ethiopia and Kenya. Other Personae athletes competing in Valencia were Albert Rop (13th in 1:01:21 PB), and among the women, Rose Chelimo (14th in 1:10:20).
Another noteworthy performance on the road in late March included the victory by Personae newcomer Eliud Sugut at the Marathon du golfe de Saint Tropez (2:18:33).
