2025 World Championships Tokyo – Day 1: Vervaet and Ponette help Belgium secure bronze medals

The ’25 Track & Field World Championships got underway today in Tokyo.  Golazo-managed athletes helped the Belgian 4x400m mixed relay team get off to a flying start, as Imke Vervaet (second leg) and Helena Ponette (anchor leg), joined Dylan Borlee (first leg) and Alexander Doom (third leg), to win their opening round heat in 3:10.37.  In the final, the same quartet captured the bronze medals, thanks to the closing kick and lean by Ponette, which allowed the team to defeat Poland and reach the podium by the narrowest of margins, 3:10.61 to 3:10.63.

Other Golazo athletes in action on Day 1 included Ejgayehu Taye, 5th in the women’s 10000m final (30:55.52) and Jana van Lent, 13th in the women’s 10000m final (31:44.05); Freweyni Hailu, 1st in her 1500m heat (4:01.23) and advancing to the semi-final round; Ruben Querinjean, 4th in his 3000m Steeplechase heat (8:29.42) and advancing to the event final; Tim van der Velde, 11th in his 3000m Steeplechase heat (9:02.21); and Rani Rosius, 4th in her 100m heat (11.25).
